oldness. What a beautiful thing! It brings snow. It makes your body go into overdrive and helps you lose weight faster when you exercise. Coldness is a blessing!
So why do so many people hate the cold? Honestly, I don’t know. In Mongolia, I felt best when the temperature was in the -20F to -40F range. At that point, the body does all it can to keep warm. When my normally lame and sluggish body goes into overdrive like that, I can run nearly a full mile without stopping. Why does my body work itself up like that? To survive. My body wants to live. It wants to thrive. And in the end, when it gets too cold for me, I just go to my warm, safe home.
In light of this, why would I go to Southeast Asia? Many reasons. One of them has to do with coldness. No, not the air temperature—the heart coldness of the people. These people are struggling for life. Their spiritual life is cold and dark. They constantly fight to live just one more day. They do their best with what they know, but it still leaves them empty.
These people have not been reached with the gospel. They have no safe haven to run to when the darkness overtakes them. They have no light at the end of the tunnel. All they have is coldness. It’s my job, as given me by Christ, to “Go ye into all the world” to share with people the warmth and hope that is in Christ Jesus our Savior. Let’s light our candles and go warm up those dark, cold corners of the world.
